Snapshots of Joy: Dot’s First Rodeo

Baby on mom’s lap experiencing the piano for the first time, wearing pink hearing aides, looking in awe at the keys.

Dot experienced the piano for the first time this weekend. My mom was in town from out of state, and we were visiting my grandma. My mom and grandma sat at the piano to play together, and Dot perched on my mom’s lap, her little tummy brushing against the edge of the keys, her hearing aides on.

As they played and sang, she could feel the vibrations of the piano through her body. She glanced back and forth between the keys and my mom singing behind her, her eyes wide with awe and wonder. Every note seemed to ripple through her tiny frame, capturing her attention and curiosity in a way I hadn’t seen before

I watched her soak it all in—her little hands wanting to reach, but not sure how to explore this entirely sensory experience, her face glowing with fascination.

That moment—that wonder—that connection. That’s this week’s Snapshot of Joy.
